June 22, 2010 News Releases
Seven Rivers Regional Medical Center is the recipient of the 2009 Jean Byers Award for Excellence in Cancer Registration. The award acknowledges the hospital’s timeliness and completeness in reporting cancer case admissions to Florida Cancer Data System (FCDS).

FCDS is a statewide cancer surveillance system, legislatively mandated in 1978 to collect incidence data on all cases seen in Florida since 1981. The goal of FCDS is to reduce cancer-related death and illness by providing data on cancer incidence. Data collected is used to observe cancer trends and provide a research base for studies into the possible causes of cancer.

“This award acknowledges the quality work our team puts in behind the scenes,” said Lisa Stearns, director of health information management. “Our department works closely with the laboratory and information systems to report this data. We thank the staff for their supporting roles.”
