October 27, 2008 News Releases
Seven Rivers Regional Medical Center (SRRMC) is one of 30 Florida hospitals to receive a Performance Improvement Award by meeting FMQAI (the Medicare Quality Improvement Organization for Florida) criteria for pneumonia and surgical care improvement.

To earn the FMQAI Performance Improvement Award, a hospital must first achieve certification as a Quality Improvement Organization (QIO)-collaborating hospital. Additionally, a hospital must achieve a minimum of a 50 percent reduction in failure rate in one or more national inpatient topics defined by the program. Seven Rivers Regional has participated as a QIO-collaborating hospital (under the 8th Statement of Work contract) since 2005, receiving numerous acknowledgements along the way.

To meet this year’s Performance Achievement Award criteria, Seven Rivers Regional demonstrated systematic, concurrent processes for reviewing patient care and the implementation of activities to raise staff knowledge and understanding of evidence-based guidelines that reduce patient complications and mortality.

FMQAI Hospital Quality Improvement project director Gladys Worlds, MS, RHIA, CPHQ encourages all hospitals to work with FMQAI, stating, “We believe that this collaboration is a major contributor in instituting and maintaining transformational system changes which ultimately lead to performance improvement in the National Hospital Quality Measures as defined by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS).” Through the Medicare Quality Improvement contract issued by CMS, FMQAI partners with Florida healthcare providers in a voluntary collaboration providing resources, one-on-one training and staff education for quality improvement projects. The projects are specifically designed to improve the quality of healthcare for over 3.1 million Medicare beneficiaries living in Florida.

Seven Rivers Regional Medical Center is a 128-bed general, medical/surgical acute care facility that opened its doors in 1978 and serves the communities of Citrus, Levy and South Marion Counties. Seven Rivers Regional is fully accredited by The Joint Commission and has earned the Gold Seal of Approval™ from Joint Commission as a Certified Primary Stroke Center and is a Florida State designated Primary Stroke Center. The medical center is recognized with a Triple Performance Achievement Award from the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association (AHA/ASA) for its success with Get With The Guidelines (GWTG). In addition, Seven Rivers Regional has joined the Institute for Healthcare Improvement’s 5 Million Lives Campaign, is a partner with Florida Medical Quality Assurance, Inc. on Medicare projects and has been honored as one of the nation’s Top 100 Hospitals (1999, 2001) and Top 100 Hospital for Stroke (2000). Seven Rivers Regional can be found on the World Wide Web at www.srrmc.com.
